Oil on canvas portrait of the sidewheeler, Milton Marton, signed and dated "James Bard 1868". This is a wonderful example of Bard´s work. The vessel is very attractive with a beautifully painted paddlebox, strutwork, walking beam and circular pilothouse with eagle.

The vessel has four flagpoles and is flying several banners, patriotic streamers and the American flag. The picture was painted towards the end of Bard´s middle period and is one of the last pictures painted to include Bard´s charming figures. The sea and sky are beautifully rendered and very colorful.
