SE118 - Scrimshaw Whale Tooth

SE118 - Scrimshaw Whale ToothRare and important scrimshaw whale tooth. The edge of the tooth depicts a uniformed young man with high collar shoulder bars and an official looking hat. He has several pistols tucked into his belt. In his right hand he is holding a flagpole with a wavy flag. The flag bears the engraved inscription which states: "United States Secret Service". The wording is circled with engraved stars.

Below the flag is a long haired woman seated on a large sea serpent. Above her is a banner with the engraved words: "The Queen of the Sea".

The reverse of the tooth has a beautifully detailed engraving of a standing woman with a fancy engraved long dress. She is wearing a ribbon on the side of her head. To the right of the woman is a young girl standing with her hand extended towards the flag. American. Circa 1865.
