SE113 - Daniel Quare Portable Barometer
Exceptionally rare and important walnut and gild brass portable barometer. The barometer has a glazed gild brass rectangular head. On opposite sides of the mercury column are vertical engraved silver scales. There is a slot on the inside edge of each scale through which the geared vernier pointers ride. Separating the two geared finials is a larger two part finial. Below the head is a three sided gild brass square shaped plate. This plate and the head of the finial above are beautifully engraved. The gild metal parts are mounted on a walnut backing and base. The wood base is square shaped and rounds towards the edges. The base then turns into a stop-fluted column, above a turned brass disk, above a rectangular walnut base with step molded top and bottom, above the collapsible gild brass lets. Each of the four legs is beautifully decorated including a male face at the center. English.
