Vote Deputy Mayor Penny Markowitz-Moses for Mayor
Penny
Markowitz-Moses is a lifelong Ossining resident, a graduate of Ossining High School and the
Fashion Institute of Technology. She and her family operated Markowitz Mens Wear, a landmark
local business in downtown Ossining for eighty years. Penny is self-employed and lives in Eagle
Bay Condominiums.
Penny is currently serving her fifth term on the Village Board, having served from 1990 through
1993, and again since 1997. She has always been a hands-on Trustee, involving herself in all
aspects of our Village in her efforts to improve the quality of life in Ossining. Her track record led to her receiving the endorsement of the Journal News.
Throughout her service to Ossining and in her years in business, Penny has displayed the traits
and talents it takes to be an effective and innovative Mayor for Ossining. From contract negotiations
and project management to administrative skills and experience with zoning laws, Penny has proven
that she has what it takes and more.
Presently she holds the position of Deputy Mayor, and serves on the Inter-Municipal Agreement
committee. Penny has always been active in the Village. She serves as liaison to:
- Ossining Union Free School District
- Town of Ossining
- Congresswoman Sue Kelly
Penny is a member of:
- Ossining Heritage Area Tourism Committee
- Board of Directors of Eagle Bay Condominiums
- The League of Women Voters
- Ossining Arts Council
- Ossining Historical Society
- Congregation Sons of Israel
Markowitz-Moses says of the current boards role in reviving the downtown business district:
"I will continue my efforts to make Ossining even better then ever before. We will
work to expand the economic revitalization of the downtown. We have completed the new Post Office
and our new Police/Court facility. Our goals are to increase our tax base and to strengthen
community dialogue and community relations. We will spare no efforts to accomplish these goals.
We are the cheerleaders of Ossining."
She believes that the Board is responsible for waking up the community and attracting new businesses
and restaurants to the downtown area.
Penny is the proud stepmother of three wonderful children and the grandmother of seven splendid
grandchildren. Her only regret is that they are scattered from Florida to Massachusetts, and
in between.
